Going Down The List: Yuyushiki

(MAL LINK)

I must make a confession, a confession that might make me unpopular: I didn’t actually like Yuyushiki that much. I watched it all when it aired, but I haven’t touched it since July 2013. I wasn’t very excited when I heard there was going to be an OVA many years later (I was more interested in the Kiniro Mosaic OVA), and I’m not even a big fan of all the fan art.

Going Down The List: Wakaba*Girl

(MAL LINK)

I was a huge fan of Wakaba Girl when it aired. The OP was super catchy and cute, the characters were good and the faces, and comedy in general, were funny. I was a little bit disappointed that it was a short-format show with 7-minute episodes, but then again that meant that the jokes never really had the chance to go stale. It was a fun little experience.

Going Down The List: Non Non Biyori

(MAL LINK)

When Non Non Biyori first started airing, I was really into these kinds of moe slice of life shows with cute characters and not much happening. The first few episodes of the first season of Non Non Biyori also offered this, but then episode 4 came along and delivered something unexpected: Strong emotional moments (which I didn’t find in stuff like Kiniro Mosaic etc). Unfortunately, the next 5 episodes were fairly disappointing to me, mostly because I didn’t like the relationship between Hotaru and Komari, and Natsumi’s antics got boring and annoying pretty quickly. The last few episodes of the season, however, fortunately capitalised on the strengths of the early episodes and made the experience, as a whole, satisfying, but it was probably the end of the phase where I could enjoy moe slice of life shows without reservation.

Going Down The List: Kiniro Mosaic

(MAL LINK)

I must admit something: I get really intense bouts of secondhand embarrassment when anime characters speak English(in the original Japanese dub, I’m fine with English dubs). And for this reason, I almost missed out on Kiniro Mosaic when it first aired in Summer 2013. Fortunately, however, people kept bringing up the first episode as “super cute” in discussions on many different platforms, which is why I eventually caved in and gave it a shot. And I didn’t regret it, even though the rest of the show ended up being different from the first episode.

Going Down The List: Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san

(MAL LINK)

This show was not particularly memorable. In fact, there was so little memorable stuff in it that I can barely remember any details about it. Going by MAL, though, I can say that I thought it was average, and the episodes were only 3 minutes long. Oh, and I also remember that it was extremely gay in all the best possible ways. The way the girls interacted with each other just made me heart go really doki doki. I’m not even embarrassed to use that term here, that’s how sweet it was.

Going Down The List: Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?

(MAL LINK)

GochiUsa is like the opposite of GJ-bu. It has those cliches, it has a gimmick that it uses way too much, and it’s occasionally very annoying. On the bright side, though, in its dissimilarity to GJ-bu, it’s actually memorable! Being the only show I know of that is rabbit-centric(dog- and cat-centricism is much more common), it’s my go to show when I want to look at cute rabbits and cute girls talking about rabbits. It stands out in that respect.
