This is it, this is the show that will fill my moe quota for the season. Aside from the scene with the boy committing election fraud in order to trick a girl into kissing him (I realise that may not sound like it makes much sense), the whole first episode was very sweet, cute and funny. I also like the fact that the characters are, well, not hominids, because it opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to characterisation and conflict. I’m also glad that this show seems to be portraying this aspect more wholesomely than Monster Musume.
Cute floppy ears.
There was some (maybe well-founded) concern about the animation quality of the show because it’s being animated by Haoliners Animation, but I didn’t find much to complain about in the first episode. Yeah, it’s not fantastic-looking, but it’s not bad either. It’s good enough for me.
Due to foreseen and not unfortunate circumstances, which I could however not compensate for, I still have not had time to watch the first episode of Battery, which is why I will not be publishing my first impressions on it (because I feel like writing an entire post after a week-long break would be too much of a pain). I just thought I’d make that clear so no one has to sit and wait for a post that will never come. However, based on other people’s reactions, I can say that I’m expecting Battery to be at the very least a decent show, though maybe not the best drama ever. That said, it’s sort of pointless to speculate too much, so I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m frankly sort of surprised that this is the first short-form anime for me this season. Not that that’s a bad thing, though. In the case of this show, it is in fact a good thing. This show isn’t heavy on animation, nor is it varied in its topics. As the title states, it’s about the school life of fudanshi (boys who like BL), or at least one fudanshi. The first joke is about him buying BL and feeling like he’s being judged. The second joke is him explaining to his friend why the fact that he likes BL doesn’t make him gay (perhaps somewhat obviously). The third joke is the friend complaining about people mistaking him for a woman.
Oh dear, we once again have a season where I’m picking up 30 new shows. This is because almost everything looks woefully mediocre to me, so I might as well pick up a bunch of random shows and see if any of them stick. There are a few shows I have high hopes for, but the rest are pretty much completely wild cards.
